The state floats turned out amazing. I have high expectations for the students, knowing that they will do a great job. But they exceeded that. Every student did an amazing job! The floats were amazing. Here they are...all 90 of them. Great job, Fifth Grade!
State Floats Projects
This project has two parts to it. The first part is a packet with information about an assigned state. This part will be done mostly at school. The second part of the project will be a state float which will be done at home. Please don't spend money on this. Look around and find items that you can use to make the state float. Details are in the packets.

Here are some additional websites that might help with research for the state information packet:
States and Capitals
I am requiring the students to learn the states, capitals, and abbreviations. They will be required to locate these on a map of the united states. On my website, I have listed songs and games to help students learn these.

We just finished our 13 colony balloons and they turned out amazing!!! Check them out below.
We are currently working on the 13 colonies. The students are working in small groups where they will have to create a colony balloon. They are putting facts and a short historical summary on the the balloon. They will stuff them and we will hang them in our room. The students are so creative in their work. The balloons are looking awesome.

Overview
This year, the students will be studying United States History. We will be starting with explorers and moving through westward expansion, the civil war, inventions and much more.
The students will have three at home projects as well as some memorizing that will be required.
I will be providing time in class to do some research, but there will be at-home work. The work will be putting together the report or project. If students use their time wisely, in class, there shouldn't be too much homework.
